What does Young Life do?
We reach out to kids and build healthy relationships with them while showing them the love of Christ. We enter their world as missionaries by going to their games, tutoring at their schools, and hanging out where they hang out. We invite them to Young Life Club where they play games, sing songs, and hear about Jesus. We allow kids the opportunity to be kids by playing fun games and doing silly skits so that they can laugh hard. We also take kids to camp every summer where they have the best week of their life and learn more about a God who is in love with them.
Why is Young Life important?
Young life is important because it is a tool to reach out to kids. Young Life offers kids fun activities and the support of a caring adult friend/mentor. Researchers have found that a caring adult such as a counselor, coach or an academic content teacher can help to reverse the process of underachievement (Reis, Colbert, Hebert 2005: 111“Understanding Resilience in Diverse Talented Students in a Urban High School”). This is needed for every kid, especially in city schools where many students struggle with underachieving. Kids need someone to help guide them through the ups and downs of life- Young life offers that to kids.
