YFE Los Angeles: March 2013

This event features Caroline Tran as our guest speaker.  She will share how she transitioned from a 9-5 teaching job to working full time doing photography!  As an entrepreneur, she will share her lessons, pitfalls and some laughs with all of us.

Featured Speaker:

Caroline Tran {Caroline Tran Photography}

Caroline Tran is a natural storyteller, who seredipitously found photography, which turned out to be the perfect medium for her to express herself.  She was teaching high school physics when she launched her photography business, which took off in just 6 months.  She found success in just a year with a publication in a few months and the next thing she knew, her calendar was fully booked for the next two years.  She finished up that school year, while working the two full time jobs, then left teaching at the end of that school year thinking she would get more "me" time.  Since then, her business grew even faster - she has photographed weddings all around the world, and is published internationally.  “Teaching trained me to think quickly on my feed, manage time and large groups, while maintaining composure, which is invaluable on a wedding day.”  In addition to her strong leadership, she has a distinctive style that couples all around the world seek her for.  “When someone hires me, they are inviting me to share in some of their most intimate memories… many that no one else gets to witness, “ says Caroline Tran, who shoots weddings primarily on film.  “I enjoy getting to know them, and telling their story through my lens.  I am inspired by light, and finding beauty in simplicity.”

 Kat Rogers {KRE Films}

Kat's passion for entertainment was developed at an early age. During high school, she worked as an audience page on sitcoms such as Friends, Spin City, The Drew Carey Show, Jesse and That 70's Show. She was accepted into UCLA's theatre program in 2000 and continued to further her education through the management programs and internships offered by the university.

The Dukes of Hazzard got her to move to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2004. She was rehired by the same production team to work on The Guardian in 2005. After several years of location experience, Kat returned to Los Angeles and dove into the studio world at Twentieth Century Fox. During her time there, she coordinated almost twenty films, including Alvin & the Chipmunks (1 and 2), Marley & Me and Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief.

In 2009, Kat transitioned from the studio world independent European films and moved to Berlin, Germany. She was often seen meeting with local producers and making her rounds at film festivals such as Cannes Film Festival and Berlinale.

Kat has since returned to Los Angeles to collaborate with RareForm Pictures on the short film Wallenda. Last spring, she developed and prepared 2 indies with a new company, to start production early fall, but some legal problems shut them down. Currently, she's working in Post at Fox, developing original scripts for her own company, and working with a local theatre troupe to produce original works as well.
