The inaugural concert in this series features works by Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Paganini, Franck, and Syzmanowski

Presented in association with Trinity Episcopal Church, the proceeds from this concert will support Music for Youth's MUSICAL MONDAYS after-school program at the High Horizons and Multicultural Magnet Schools in Bridgeport.

Cedar Rose Newman (15) is from Wombarra, a small coastal town south of Sydney, Australia. She studies with Lucie Robert at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College and was the recipient of the Kate Bamberger Scholarship for violin (2018). She holds the Jocelyn Gertel Scholarship for strings (2019). Cedar recently won the Pre-College Philharmonic String Concerto Competition playing the Mendelssohn violin Concerto. Cedar began violin with Sarah Hindson in Wollongong before moving to work with Albert Markov in the US. She completed her AMEB Associate Diploma in piano, studying with Gian-Franco Ricci.

Cedar has performed recitals, as soloist with orchestra, in chamber music and orchestral concerts in Australia, North America and Europe. Recent performances include: E. Lalo, Symphonie Espagnole and C. Saint-Saëns, Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso with orchestra. Cedar has been an active participant in Music for Youth since moving to the US in 2016. Australian composer Ann-Carr Boyd, recently wrote that in performance Cedar "…excels in her execution, presentation and interpretation of music and her tone and accuracy is brilliant in the upper range of the violin and she produces lovely mellow rich sounds in the lower registers."

Akiko Chiba is an internationally renowned artist who graduated from the Julliard School and the Mannes College in New York. She is a Laureate of numerous awards and honors both as a soloist and as a member of various chamber music ensembles. Akiko has been a music coach at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England and has worked increasingly with aspiring young artists in New York. In 2019 she was one of the official accompanists for the Thomas and Evan Cooper International Violin Competition, where she performed with Eric Charles Chen, who was the winner of the competition. Akiko has been working with Cedar since 2017.

Sabrina Lee (11) has been playing violin since she was 6 and studies with Russian violinist Yuri Vodovoz in New York. She previously worked with Yuan Ma in Stamford. Sabrina received an Honorable mention at 2019 Suzanne Culley Competition in Connecticut. Sabrina has recently become involved in Music for Youth Friday Night Cafes and attended a master class with the Vera Quartet sponsored by MFY in September this year.

Sabrina is a first first year student at Middlesex Middle school in Darien, she likes dogs and plays marble chess in her spare time.
