Our speaker: Bruce Simpson
"You had me at Kia Ora"
Having lived in London for over 30 years now and as a senior member of Ngāti Rānana the London Māori Club, Bruce has many tales to tell of his time as a motorcycle courier, cab driver and now as a Haka Teambuilding Leader for some of the world’s largest blue chip companies.
His light-hearted look from a māori perspective about his conversations with Royalty ("oh, you again" Prince Charles), Law Lords ("Maori don't really play cricket Lord Denning") and Pop Stars ("Nelly, but that’s a girl’s name Bro") highlight the ever continuing fish out of water experiences that make up the many stories of his life in London.
Bruce hails from Palmerston North in the Manawatu living close to both his Ngāti Raukawa people in Bulls and his Muaūpoko people in Levin. He also descends from Ngāti Toarangatira who are the decedents of the chief Te Rauparaha the composer of the famous haka "Ka Mate". Bruce loves to talk of his māori heritage to the world but also about the funny side of having his Irish father living amongst his māori relatives. Having entertained thousands around the world with his performances he now wants to share some of those light-hearted moments with the NZUGA.
