Event description

National Park Trips Media (an Authorized Permittee of the National Park Service), Tamron USA have teamed up to offer the National Park Night Skies Photography Workshop in three national parks. Imagine the soaring faces of Half Dome and El Cap, the Milky Way arching across deep Sierra Valleys, and moonlight reflecting off of alpine waterfalls. This workshop will immerse an exclusive group of participants into the art and science of photography in the national parks. As an added bonus, we’ll take advantage of the region's stunning sunrises and sunsets and additional shoots to capture these moments.

The workshop begins the evening of October 16th with a cocktail hour and meet and greet at the Rush Creek Lodge in California and will allow you to get to know your fellow photographers and instructors. Tamron USA will have their full complement of lenses available to loan out to you for the entire program, including their award-winning 15-30 (FX and DX in Canon, Nikon, and Sony mounts).

Workshop Headquarters

Rush Creek Lodge
34001 CA-120 Groveland, CA 95321

All participants must arrange transportation to the host lodging property. We will provide transportation from this location to all shoot locations within Yosemite National Park.

Weather in the High Sierra of California and in the Yosemite Valley is relatively temperate in October. Cooler Autumnal temperatures have started to move in - be forewarned, however, that the workshop will use locations at varied elevations. Glacier Point and higher can be significantly cooler than the Yosemite Valley floor. As always, we recommend bringing a variety of layers.

Inclement Weather:

In the event weather prevents photographing the night’s skies, we will have several contingencies.

$2,350 for double occupancy room or $2,550 for a single occupancy room. Includes workshop, transportation to and from shoot locations, lodging, and some meals. Airfare not included.

Workshop Organizer:

Alex Cernichiari

Alex Cernichiari

Alex started his interest in photography in high school with his grandfather’s 35mm Nikkormat SLR (not fancy, just bombproof.) After taking a few years of classes, he traveled Europe with his trusty film camera always in tow. Later, settling down in the U.S., he started producing events for the bicycle industry – some with margins so thin, he had to put his skills to use as the official event photographer. After a stint at an experiential marketing agency, Alex joined National Park Trips Media in order to encourage more people to enjoy all that the outdoors has to offer. Alex is a passionate cyclist and skier but is happy along any trail with good company – and he always has a camera at the ready in his pack. Alex is organizing all of the 2018 Photography Workshops and will be in attendance at all of them.
