Description

Overview

Imagine the soaring faces of Half Dome and El Cap, the Milky Way arching across deep Sierra valleys and moonlight reflecting off of alpine waterfalls. This workshop will immerse you and a small group of participants into the art and science of photography in the national parks. As an added bonus, we’ll take advantage of the region's stunning sunrises and sunsets and night skies to capture the beauty of Yosemite.

You'll stay three nights at Rush Creek Lodge, the newest resort in the Yosemite area, just one mile from Yosemite's Hwy. 120 West Entrance. When you're not out photographing the park, enjoy the amenties of the lodge's 20-acre wooded property including heated salt-water pool, two hot tubs, yoga classes and more. More information about Rush Creek Lodge.

The workshop begins the evening of October 16 with a dinner reception at the Rush Creek Lodge and will allow you to get to know the photographers and instructors in our workshop. From there, we will begin exploring Yosemite through the lens of your camera. Be prepared to walk up to a quarter mile on uneven surfaces to get to each shoot.

Tamron USA will have their full complement of lenses available to loan out to you for the entire program, including their award-winning 15-30 (FX and DX in Canon, Nikon, and Sony mounts). National Park Trips Media (an Authorized Permittee of the National Park Service), Tamron USA have teamed up to offer the National Park Night Skies Photography Workshop series in a number of national parks in 2018.

Transportation:

All participants must arrange transportation to the host lodging property. We will provide transportation from this location to all shoot locations within Yosemite National Park. Be prepared to walk up to a quarter mile on uneven surfaces to get to each shoot.

Weather:

Weather in the High Sierra of California and in the Yosemite Valley is relatively temperate in October. However, fall typically brings cooler temperatures, particulary at higher elevatiosn in the park. Glacier Point and other sites can be significantly cooler than the Yosemite Valley floor.

Inclement Weather:

In the event weather prevents photographing the night’s skies, we will have several contingencies.

What to Pack:

DSLR, tripod, wide angle and zoom lenses (Tamron will have their full complement of lenses available for all participants to use, in both full-frame and crop-sensor models, including their new 15-30mm), extra memory cards, headlamp, light hiking shoes, warm clothes, rain jacket or shell, hat, and sun glasses. We recommed you bring a laptop for the post-processing class.
