Combat Boots and High Heels is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization comprised of Veterans...supporting our veterans! We are teaming up with experienced yoga instructor Mandy Mcamis of Elation Odyssey to raise awareness about yoga, meditation, and the many amazing benefits of both.
One of our focus areas is the positive effects of yoga for those that have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD affects around 30% of veterans, and is generally classified as a mental health struggle after someone has experienced or witnessed a life-threatening event, such as combat, a natural disaster, a car accident or something as personal as sexual assault. We want to encourage the practice of Yoga as a way of coping with the effects of PTSD.
With focus on mind, body and breath, yoga can not only relieve stress and give you a good stretch, but it can also aid in weight loss, inner peace, improved immunity, increased energy and better flexibility & posture.
This free event will take place on the Capitol Lawn in front of the Missouri State Capitol Building. There will be two 30 minute sessions with live music.
All experience levels are welcome! Whether you are looking for a fun, free event, that is unique or whether you just want to support our veterans, come out and join in! Your presence at #Yoga4Vets will help bring out the strength in others.
The event is free, but we do require you to sign up in order to secure your slot. You are also able to make a donation to our veterans, with the first 60 donating participants receiving free t-shirts/yoga mats, depending on your donation selection. Anticipate some awesome handouts and vendors on sight sampling their food/beverages. There will also be a social hour following the event for those interested in hanging out!
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
You must be able to do yoga to participate. Yoga is all about being relaxed, calm and focused, so this is not an event for small kiddos. We ask that attendees be over the age of 12 and able to take direction/follow instructions. My parents found this was a great event to spend with their teenagers as it's something unique that they can both enjoy!
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking is available in numerous lots, garages and on the street. Check out this map for more information:
Additional info. on parking rates (you might want to bring some quarters):
What can I bring into the event?
You may bring bottled water or sports drinks, friends, a yoga mat or other yoga accessories, and a smile :) There is a donation option to receive a free event yoga mat if you do not have one of your own.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
You can contact the organizer at CBHHAdvocate6@gmail.com.
What's the refund policy?
Coming to the event is free. If you are one of the first 60 particpants to donate to receive a yoga mat or a yoga-T, but do not come to the event, you are not guaranteed to receive your items. We can mail items, but a shipping cost will be billed to you prior.
What are the donation options?
Great question! There is an option to make a tax deductible eligible donation and receive either a yoga mat, t-shirt, or both!
Where is the social hour?
The optional Social hour will be immediately following clean up and close out of event at a location TBD in downtown Jefferson City. It is not affiliated with or sponsored by Combat Boots and High Heels; it is just an opportunity for partipants to interact in a social setting after the event.
