Yoga Sutras - chanting & meditative practices - with Dirk Gysels
Sun, May 7, 2017, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM CEST
A meditative exploration of the first chapter, Samādhi Pada of the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali with Dirk Gysels and Shantala Sriramaiah, who will guide you through this workshop with yogic practices and chanting to have an overview of the chapter.
Shantala comes from Bangalore, India and grew up with Sanskrit chanting as part of her family tradition. She is a certified Vedic chant teacher and is deeply connected to this tradition from a young age. This ancient practice provides the most meditative way to begin the study of this authoritative text on yoga – through the call and response form of chanting. When words become familiar through chant, this serves as a sacred foundation to begin the spiritual study of this magnificent text.

Dirk Gysels holds a Masters in History. He is a published writer on esoteric aspects of classical yoga, Ayurveda and modern sages of India. Currently he is a teacher and facilitator of courses on well-being and communication skills for the Belgian Government. Although at home in many authentic yogic traditions, he practises and teaches mainly from within the Himalayan tradition of Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati. Stretched over more than 3 decades, he visited India 20+ times, studying with sages in their traditional ashram surroundings. He approaches the Yoga Sutras not only from the angle of the classical commentaries, but also as a live scripture, a mirror for one's own level of evolution. Therefore, the class will mainly be based on the oral transmission received from Swami Veda and from another contemporary sage, Swami Atmananda.
