Description

Saturday January 6, 2018 1pm - 3pm: Mindfulness Meditation

Why Mindfulness Meditation?

This workshop is part of series on “Why Meditation?” Dr. Jerome S. Paige offers. The January 6th workshop (1-3 pm) focuses on “Mindfulness Meditation.” One of the basic instructions in Mindfulness Meditation is to keep track of all our experiences and the components and sub-components of those experiences. Whether it’s a thought, a positive sensation, or a negative experience. Just be mindful of how it arises, unfolds and passes away. Another term for “Mindfulness Meditation” is “Insight Meditation.”

Dr. Paige will lead a guided Mindfulness Meditation and use that experience to explore the theory, practice and application of Mindfulness. In the workshop, the claim will be explored that by keeping track of (by being mindful of) all that arises, unfolds and passes away in our mind/body, we begin to get an “insight” (a glimpse) into how we are “created.”

“How are we created?” This is an important question in Kemetic Spirituality.

For example, “The ancient Egyptians understood the connection between creation and the winter solstice, as they aligned their Karnak Temple Complex, the largest in the world, to the winter solstice sunrise and dedicated one of the central temples to creation and their supreme creator Amun.” (pages 89-90). Consequently, while we will be examining the claims of Mindfulness Meditation, we also will be exploring how “the birth of the sun as the light of the first day also represents the birth of the light of our own spiritual sun within us,” and how as “the physical sun gives life to the external world; the spiritual sun gives life to the individual.” We will be exploring our “Spiritual Sun.”

Saturday January 13, 2018 1pm - 3pm: Yoga Nidra Meditation

Why Yoga Nidra Meditation?

This workshop is part of series on “Why Meditation?” Dr. Jerome S. Paige offers. The January 13th workshop focuses (1-3 pm) on “Yoga Nidra Meditation.” One of the basic instructions in Yoga Nidra is let each experience we encounter during the meditation -- a thought, a positive sensation, or a negative experience – be a guide to who we truly are. In the words of the poet Rumi, during a Yoga Nidra Meditation we beckon you to Be grateful for whoever comes, because each (guest) has been sent, as a guide from beyond.

Dr. Paige will lead a guided Yoga Nidra Meditation and use that meditation experience to explore the theory, practice and application of Yoga Nidra.

In the workshop, the claim will be explored that by welcoming all “the guests” that visit us doing a meditation, these “guests” will guide us to a knowing of how we are “created.”
