Event description

Description

THIS ITINERARY:

WHERE: Castlewood. Meet at or near the shelter on the left of the main road, near the playground, bathrooms and large parking lot.

WHEN: 9AM-1PM

WHAT TO EXPECT:

On this itinerary, we will have a focus on Pranayama (Control of the "prana" or "life force" or "breath"), one of the 8 limbs of the Yogic path. So that you can experience various forms of Pranayama, we will be stopping on three seperate occasions during our hike to practice different breathing techniques.

Experience the overwhelming beauty of nature and some of the parks most spectacular views. Expect to encounter forested hillsides, scenic bluffs, and crumbling remains from the past. You may get lucky and pass through a tunnel just as a train is crossing above on the Union Pacific railroad. We will meander beside the Meramec River for a couple miles before stumbling upon a large open field, where we will practice yoga.

Both Sheila and Nicole are educated in a yoga method that converges the Ancient Eastern physical, psychological, and contemplative traditions, and the modern Western perspectives of the body and mind in light of evolutionary theory, evolutionary psychology, neuro-anatomy and neuro-physiology. Expect to enjoy a class that is physically stimulating while being safe and restorative and still being coherent with the wisdom that has come down through the ages.

This trail is rated moderate and, according to Missouri State Parks you may expect the following:

* Natural surface, dirt, mud, gravel, shifting rocks, slippery surface, etc.
* Rocks, roots and/or downed vegetation on trail
* Wood or stone steps
* Steep grades and inclines more than 10 percent
* Bluffs or drop-offs next to trail
* Bridges and/or structural crossings
* Water/stream crossings without bridges
* Occasional water over trail
* Road/highway crossing
* Emergency response signs

ABOUT YOGA HIKES STL:

Yoga Hikes STL, started by Sheila Dugopolski and Nicole Dudas, brings like-minded souls together to connect with nature while deepening our understanding of ourselves.

Begin your Yoga Hike experience with a lesson on the yoga tradition that you'll then be encouraged to reflect on and integrate into your hike and yoga asana practice.

On your hike, take in the overwhelming beauty of remnant prairies, caves, old growth forests and woodlands. Enjoy the soothing sounds of nature; the gentle wind through the trees, the birds, the trickle of one of Missouri's nearby creeks or springs. You'll be encouraged to literally smell the roses and feel the earth under your feet.

While each itinerary is slightly different, at the most opportune time you'll take part in a Yoga Asana Practice that converges the Ancient Eastern traditions, and the modern Western perspectives. Expect to enjoy a class that is physically stimulating while being safe and restorative and still being coherent with the wisdom that has come down through the ages.

Yoga Hikes STL brings yoga into the woods of St. Louis area so you can connect to nature and something deeper within yourself. We are looking forward to sharing this transformative, inspiring experience with you.
