Event description

Description

Join Sheila and Nicole on a moderately rated 3.25 mile hike followed by an All Levels Yoga Class in Castlewood Park. We will meet at or near the shelter on the left of the main road, near the playground and large parking lot.

The core of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is the eight limbed path. The first step is Yama. According to Gurudeva, Yamas are guidelines that create a virtuous and moral lifestyle that frees us from confusion, unnecessary negative entanglements and lower states of mind. To begin our Yoga Hike, we will first briefly share about the first Yama, Ahimsa, and discuss how you might embody Ahimsa during your Yoga Hike adventure and beyond.

Next, experience the overwhelming beauty of nature and some of the parks most spectacular views. Expect to encounter forested hillsides, scenic bluffs, and crumbling remains from the past. You may get lucky and pass through a tunnel just as a train is crossing above on the Union Pacific railroad. We will meander beside the Meramec River for a couple miles before stumbling upon a large open field.

After completion of our hike, we will take a brief break to use the restrooms, mingle, and set up for class. Both Sheila and Nicole are educated in a yoga method that converges the Ancient Eastern physical, psychological, and contemplative traditions, and the modern Western perspectives of the body and mind in light of evolutionary theory, evolutionary psychology, neuro-anatomy and neuro-physiology. Expect to enjoy a class that is physically stimulating while being safe and restorative and still being coherent with the wisdom that has come down through the ages.

This trail is rated moderate and, according to Missouri State Parks you may expect the following:

* Natural surface, dirt, mud, gravel, shifting rocks, slippery surface, etc.
