Yoga Gives Back is a registered non-profit organisation in the United States, founded in 2007 by Kayoko Mitsumatsu to express gratitude for the gift of yoga by mobilising the global yoga community to empower impoverished women and children in Mother India to build sustainable livelihoods.

Each year the worldwide yoga community unites with a heart opening effort to change the lives of those less fortunate during this global campaign. This annual campaign generates the majority of Yoga Gives Back’s funding to India each year to nearly 1200 mothers, children and youths with education funds and micro-financing inspired by Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Dr Muhammad Yunus.

YGB’s latest campaign is to reach “ONE MILLION YOGIS” to join forces. It’s estimated that 300 million people enjoy yoga in the world today generating $80 billion. If One Million Yogis came together, we can uplift many move lives.

Women’s Centre for Change (WCC), Penang will be one of the beneficiaries of this event. Funds raised from this event will be dedicated to support the important and critical work WCC is engaged in to create a society free from gender violence and discrimination.

We are proud to announce this event will commence with an opening speech by YB Chong Eng, who will be officiating the event followed by a heart-opening yoga practice led by Gwen Tan-Wynne to express compassion and gratitude towards the practice. First, 50 participation to sign up on Eventbrite will receive a goodie bag from our gracious sponsors.

This is a chance for all participants and supporters of this event to give back and make a real difference in the lives of impoverished mothers and children in India….. the birthplace of Yoga.

Gwen Tan-Wynne has been practising yoga for over 20 years, certified with Yoga Alliance and teaching since 2011. Her training with Tiffany Cruikshank, Judith Hanson Lasater and Patrick Creelman shaped her practice and teaching style, with the focus on correct alignment of the specific body while synchronising movement with the breath, creating a strong yet therapeutic practice to achieve a balance of strength, stability and mobility in the body. As a lifetime student of Yoga, Gwen is currently completing her 500-hours advance training with Yoga Medicine.

Currently based in Penang, Gwen also leads teacher training, focusing on functional anatomy and wellness retreats around Asia. When Gwen is not studying or teaching, she can be found running after or with her family of boys and travelling around the world to explore the magic and vibrancy of our beautiful planet. Mostly, she strives to stay present within all the complexity that life presents.
