Yoga + Box Hybrid Class and Talk on Food Waste
Sun, May 21, 2017, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
"Mangoes to Share" Presents:
Yoga + Box Hybrid Class & Talk on the Issue of Food Waste by "Feeding South Florida"
Yoga means union. The practice of yoga unites the body, the mind and the spirit. Yoga also unites people and brings communities together. No matter what your backgrounds or world views are, yoga is a uniting force designed to equalize.
Boxing training for fitness not only helps increase the muscular stature or your physical strength, but also helps in gaining mental strength. Boxing helps relieve stress and builds determination.
Food Waste is an urgent problem globally as well as locally. Food is the one product type that everyone consumes, and while a surprising number of people don’t have it, those who do are shockingly wasteful. Close to 50 million people experienced food insecurity, not in Africa or South America, but right here in the USA. Worldwide, that number is over 1 billion people!
As a community we need as much unity, determination, and willpower as we can get, in order to tackle this huge problem ...
That is why "Mangoes to Share" and "Feeding South Florida" (which is the sole "Feeding America" food bank currently serving Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe counties) with the help of their amazing supporters, decided to join forces, blended YOGA + BOXING and created a super-duper-FUN Sunday Event designed to strengthen the local community and inspire its members to unite in the search for answers.
The class will be followed by a talk on Food Waste led by several local activists deeply involved in finding local solutions to this global issue.
Don't miss it!!!
Join us for a SUNDAY FUN-DAY of Fitness, Networking, Brainstorming, Finding out About Local Volunteer Opportunities, Making New Friends, and most importantly making a difference in the huge issue of Food Waste, which is affecting us all. Always remember that YOU can make a big difference by JUST showing up.

The Yoga part of the class will be lead by
Anna Brautigam who was drawn to yoga for the same reasons she was drawn to classical ballet many years ago: for the challenge, discipline, flow, and beauty that they both offer. As a former dance instructor, teaching yoga was a natural transition for this Miami native, who has studied yoga around the Miami yoga community for over seven years. Anna mixes the power of the vinyasa physical practice with the rhythm of contemporary music and your natural breath, challenging the body’s endurance and strength. She incorporates dynamic poses and eclectic music to strive to bring symmetry, alignment and calmness on the mat in order to bring a more balanced, vibrant and grounded life off the mat.
The Boxing Part of the class will be led by PJ Venturino. PJ was born & raised in New York and moved to Miami 3 years ago. PJ has been a personal/group trainer for 9 years. It is truly his passion. He is a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, Group Fitness and KickBoxing Instructor. PJ played sports in high school (football, basketball, track) and has always enjoyed sports. He practiced martial arts for 14 years, mainly kickboxing & Muay Thai. PJ competed in an NPC men’s physique competitions. PJ is a diverse trainer practicing a variety of styles of training, from yoga to martial arts to bodybuilding to rehab/recovery.
Class Assistance will be done by Frank Obregon. Frank will help both Anna and PJ in assisting students throughout the whole class with allignment. He will make sure everyone is safe and sound throughout the practice :). With his background in functional fitness, Frank offers a multifaceted learning experience combining elements from both his Crossfit and yoga practices. Finding yoga through a weekly restorative class offered at his Crossfit Box, he soon realized the importance of including both elements of strength and flexibility to form a well-balanced practice; this coupled with the underlying principles shared by both disciplines -- core strength, balance, alignment, mental endurance, and proprioception among others -- lead him to where he is today.
