A weekend immersion into structural & functional anatomy & common injuries as it relates to the yoga practice.12 hours continuing education

About this Event

This weekend promises to be lively, in depth and practical. This is an enriching opportunity to deepen your understanding of yoga and anatomy. A key focus area will be on common injuries for every joint of the body and how to adapt your yoga teaching and practice to those common conditions. To anchor the teachings, an applied anatomy yoga class will close out the weekend.

Content of this workshop includes:

Anatomy Basics:

Skeletal system

Muscular system

Anatomical directional terminology

Risk Management through understanding structural & functional anatomy relating to the yoga practice

Training and conditioning principles for new yoga students

Mechanism of injury from improper alignment

Prevention of injury

Pathology and spectrum of injury

Phases of healing relating to the yoga practice

Common injuries and yoga modifications /adaptations for the following joints:

Foot and ankle

Knee

Hip

Spine

Shoulder

Wrist and hand

Jen Deraspe has an undergraduate and graduate degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training and served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of Southern Maine for 10 years. Her primary role was to assess, manage, prevent and rehabilitate athletic injuries sustained by intercollegiate athletics. During her tenure, Deraspe was adjunct faculty in the College of Nursing and established a new degree program in Athletic Training. Passionate about nature, the healing arts and spirituality, she created her own retreat center, Nurture Through Nature. A yoga, qi gong, meditation instructor, and Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie, Jen has been teaching in the wellness field for 28 years. Pre-requisites:

Completion of a 200-hour YTT or substantial prior yoga experience.

Continuing Education Credits: 12 Continuing Education hours are available for Registered Yoga Teachers with Yoga Alliance in the Anatomy and Physiology category.
