Youth Mental Health First Aid training!
Invest 8 hours of your time in the future of the approximately 4,681 youth in Owen County. This 8 hour evidence based training, delivered in 2 four hour sessions, will prepare you to recognize the signs and symptoms of a youth experiencing a mental health issue or crisis. You will not learn to diagnose but to recognize a youth in need. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death of youth in the United States and this is the most preventable cause of death. Indiana ranks # 2 in suicidal ideation.
MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS FOR CERTIFICATION.
Join us for this training to better understand what mental health is, what some of the common diagnoses are and how to respond to youth who might be experiencing a crisis. Help to remove the stigma of seeking mental health services. Be prepared to help youth with a mental health issue before it becomes a crisis.
Just as in a medical emergency, Youth Mental Health First Aid trains you to offer immediate and temporary support to youth in a mental health emergency. One in 5 Americans is estimated to have a diagnosable mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. Only a third of those receive treatment. Trained Youth Mental Health First Aiders can help to identify and offer helpful resources by practicing the skills learned in this training. Learn to assess, listen, give reassurance, and encourage youth exhibiting the signs and symptoms of a mental health issue before a crisis happens.
Completion of this training results in a 3 year certification as a Youth Mental Health First Aider and counts for 8 contact hours. Many employers accept this course for Professional Growth Points.
Everyone attending will receive a manual that will be a great resource for future reference, at no charge.
