Yin yoga is a style of yoga that focuses on the health and mobility of the lower part of the body and the spine. In yin, we hold poses longer and “marinate” in the sensations.
This allows time for us to put healthy stress on the joints and other connective tissues, increasing and maintaining our mobility, allowing us to move freelyand painlessly through out our everyday lives.
Who should give Yin Yoga a try?
This class is for healthy people wanting to maintain or increase their mobility. While yin is not a flow or vinyasa class, it is also not a restorative class and it can be very challenging for some people.
We take our time and move slow to focus on sensations and the joints/connective tissues versus other styles of yoga which focus on muscle and cardiovascular health. In Yin, we take 3-5 min. (sometimes longer) in a fully supported pose, progressing and using props when needed to get deeper.
Yin yoga increases body awareness, is excellent for stress reduction, and is a way to increase mobility.
