The Museum of Jewish Montreal is welcoming Ezra Glinter as he presents his new anthology "Have I got a Story for You: Yiddish Fiction and the Forward", and explores a century’s worth of fiction from a preeminent Yiddish publication from the Forward.
Founded in 1897 by a group of socialist writers and editors, the Forward achieved great influence and was referred to as a “living novel” capturing the entire flourishing (and sometimes floundering) world of Yiddish America.
Now, forty-two Yiddish-language fiction stories from the Forward, all translated for the first time, are available to English-language audiences.
Ezra Glinter is an award-winning journalist, critic, translator and biographer. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ezra attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. For five years Ezra worked as the deputy culture editor of the Forward, and now serves as the newspaper’s critic-at-large. Ezra’s writing has appeared in publications such as the New Republic, the Boston Globe and the Los Angeles Times; he is currently writing a biography of the Lubavitcher Rebbe for Yale University Press.
