Event description
With Covid-19 having deepened the divide between the rich and poor, how can funders make the biggest difference to those living in poverty?

About this event

FUNDING POVERTY: PREVENTION OR CRISIS?

Come together with other funding organisations of all types and sizes who give in Yorkshire & the Humber to learn more about the poverty issue and consider whether our funds are better used to help beneficiaries to get out of poverty, or live better in poverty?

Katie Schmuecker, Deputy Director of Policy and Partnerships at Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) will provide a national poverty update and then we’ll hear from funders and local, frontline organisations who focus on early intervention and systemic change, and others that provide here and now crisis support to those living in poverty so we can better understand the power of both approaches. The session will also feature:

  • Cathy Stancer, Director, Lankelly Chase
  • Andrew Grinnell from the Leeds Poverty Truth Commission
  • Richard Colbrook, Founder & Chair of Flourishing Families Leeds
  • Kim Shutler, CEO of Bradford mental health charity The Cellar Trust
