Event description

Description

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Yet I Stand will honor this month with a performance. Based on actual events, 17 year old Elise has been sexually abused for years, but watch her life unfold as she goes from victim to victor, trauma to triumph.

Yet I Stand an important tool/resource to:

  • Help raise awareness of this epidemic that whether you know it or not probably affects someone you know.

  • Educate regarding the effects on the victim and those close to them and how to help them.

  • Enable the transition from victim to survivor.

  • Encourage our youth who have been through this trauma to speak out and tell someone so enabling them get the help they need early on so and prevent their lives from being destroyed.

The vision is that performances of Yet I Stand take place on stages, in schools, community centers and churches across the country.

Every 98 seconds, people like Elise are sexually assaulted and face a life suffering from suicidal or depressive thoughts, PTSD, drug addiction and/or alcoholism, and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual illnesses.

This crime knows no boundaries and it is not governed by race, color, creed, religion or the financial status of its victims. Consider for a moment:

  • 1 out of every 6 American women has experienced sexual assault

  • About 1 in 33 men has experienced sexual assault

  • 15% of sexual assault victims are under age 12

  • Every 98 seconds, another American is sexually assaulted
