Learn More About Our Speaker

Digital maven Soraya Darabi has her finger firmly on the pulse of today's changing media landscape. Featured on the cover of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People in Business” issue, named one of Inc. Magazine's "30 Under 30," and included in AdAgeMagazine’s “25 People in Media to Follow on Twitter,” Soraya began her career as Manager of Digital Partnerships and Social Media at The New York Times.

While there, she positioned the Times on networks such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, partnered with startups large and small, established award-winning campaigns and taught journalists and chief executives alike how to best use and leverage social media. Renowned Times columnist Nicholas Kristof credits Darabi as being "the only reason why he has [millions] of followers on Twitter."

Following her tenure at the Times, Soraya served as Product Lead for, a real-time online sharing, collaboration, and presentation service recently acquired by Facebook, then helped found the mobile application Foodspotting. Today, Foodspotting boasts over three million downloads, was named by Apple and Wired as an app of the year.

In 2012 Soraya began working on a new project in New York City. She sits on the digital board of General Electric and on the advisory board of The New Republic magazine. She has given talks on how to craft a digital media strategy to chief executives at organizations ranging from Disney to Time Inc. to Tech Stars, where she serves as a startup mentor
