Event description

Description

Learn to dye your own yarn using acid dyes. Students will learn hand-painting, speckling, striping, and dip-dyeing techniques to produce custom colorways. This class will cover:

  • What are acid dyes, and what are they used for
  • Usage of mordants
  • Safe handling of dyes
  • Speckling, hand-painting, striping, gradient, and dip-dyeing techniques

All materials are provided, and students will receive several mini-skeins to practice dyeing with. You may also bring one skein of wool yarn to dye in addition to the materials provided. Students will leave the class with their freshly-dyed creations. See below for some examples of what previous students have made!
