Description

Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance (YANA) presents:

YANA Evening Tea | A Conversation About Addressing Challenges in Global Healthcare with Innovation and Technology

6:00 pm Refreshments & Networking; 6:30 pm Conversation

Featuring Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapthy '93, in an informal discussion about how she and her colleagues seek to develop novel, environmentally appropriate technologies and approaches to addressing the global disease burden. This includes the development and validation of innovative mobile-applications for clinical care, point-of-care diagnostic technologies, and portable, low-cost devices for the diagnosis and management of chronic, non-communicable diseases worldwide. Examples are the mobile Emergency Smart Pod (discussed in a recent TEDx talk) used to combat communicable disease outbreaks in remote locations, as well as novel ways to screen for and prevent cancer in the US and beyond.

Dr. Anandasabapathy, an advanced gastrointestinal endoscopist by training, conducts research involving the development and validation of novel technologies for diagnosing early gastrointestinal cancer. She is a Professor of Medicine in Gastroenterology and Director of Baylor Global Initiatives and the Baylor Global Innovation Center at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. In her current role, she oversees Baylor’s global programs and affiliations. Read her full bio HERE.
