Colorado Brazil Fest, in collaboration with the Boulder Guitar Society and Dan & Diane Concerts, is thrilled to bring back Brazilian 7-string guitar virtuoso Yamandu Costa to Colorado for only one night at the Broomfield Auditorium.

"Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa attacks the nylon strings of his guitar with a demonic playfulness. The fingers of his left hand trace lightning riffs, pausing briefly to block out full chords as they range up and down the neck with effortless zeal. His body tenses with a kind of exhilaration. His head tilts back, then sideways; his eyes close, then open, wide as moons; his legs cross and uncross, then stretch out before him—as though he and his instrument were both being played by some virtuosic sprite, and he were merely an amazed observer. The music is as technical as the most challenging classical repertoire, but the rhythms bounce and glide along with the vigor of dance grooves from some charmed, imaginary land." Guitar Player Magazine

Yamandu Costa, a seven-string guitar virtuoso, was born in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where he began his guitar studies with his father Algacir Costa, band leader of "Os Fronteiriços," when he was 7 years old. Later, he perfected his technique with Lúcio Yanel, Argentine virtuoso who was then settled in Brazil.

Until the age of 15, Yamandu's only music school was the folk music from the south of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Nevertheless, after he heard Radamés Gnattali´s work, he decided to study the music of other renowned Brazilian musicians, such as Baden Powell, Tom Jobim, Raphael Rabello, among others. When he was 17, he played for the first time in São Paulo at "Circuito Cultural Banco do Brasil" (Banco do Brasil Cultural Tour). The event was produced by "Estúdio Tom Brazil" (Tom Brazil studio). From then on he was recognized as one of Brazil's most gifted guitar players.

Yamandu has created his very particular style of compositions, a mix of the traditional music from the south of Brazil, Choro, and Samba, with acrobatic-like passages, high tempo, yet very delicate and melodic. He embraces the range of Latin American music genres with clear roots in Southern Brazilian swing. His music is astonishing, virtually taking your breath away as he melds with his instrument, being one with it for the duration of the concert.

One of Brazil's greatest music geniuses, Yamandu deserves the highest praise. On stage, he creates the magic of music through his fingers, his body, and his soul, filling the most discerning audience with joy.

Yamandu is a guitar player, composer and arranger who does not fit into a single music style, yet he creates his own genre with his seven-string guitar. Yamandu fully deserves his beautiful name which in Tupi-Guarani, a language of native Brazilians, means "the precursor of the waters of the world."

Besides numerous concerts throughout Brazil, Yamandu has toured in France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Slovenia, Russia, Lithuania, Serbia, Greece, Macedonia, Israel, Cyprus, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, Angola, United Arab Emirates, Australia, USA, Canada, Ecuador, Cuba, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Argentina and Uruguay.
