YALE GALA SUPPORTS LGBT Student Initiatives on Campus

Supporting Yale students is a core part of the mission of Yale GALA.  Yale GALA has many programs, awards and prizes for Yale students.  Yale GALA awards an Undergraduate Senior Prize (to the best senior essay or project relevant to LGBT studies), a Student Activist Prize and Yale GALA assists with 2 Student Summer Fellowships.

Yale GALA also provides Yale students (and recent graduates) with reduced costs at many events --including the Annual Yale Community Dinner -- and organizes many formal and informal career mentoring programs, to help students learn more about prospective fields and navigate any particular challanges of being LGBTQ in those fields.

A donation here allows Yale GALA discretion to use the money in the student areas with the most need.  For substantial donations we will also work with you to create a specific program or event that meets your goals.

Q is a forum to explore the wide range of queer experiences at Yale. Published once each semester, Q addresses all matters relevant to LGBTQ students on campus. Op-eds, personal essays, short fiction and photographic spreads are all included. Q's initial run of 3,000 copies was distributed to the entire undergraduate population, as well as to graduate students at the medical school, law school and school of management.  Ad space is available for as little as $120 / issue. For information on adverstising in Q contact Alice Song,

IvyQ builds a vision of equality, where strong LGBTQA students can grow the confidence and skills to lead by example and thrive beyond stereotypes. The goals of the conference are threefold: networking to create a strong and social pan-Ivy LGBTQA community; educating students about the history and different voices of the movement; and empowering tomorrow's world leaders to be proud LGBTQA leaders.

April is Pride Month at Yale, featuring 29+ events to raise awareness of the LGBT community.  Past events include prominent speakers, performances, art shows, and a production of the musical theater piece, The Gay Ivy.

Trans/gender Awareness Week at Yale (fondly referred to as "Trans Week") is an annual series of events held on the Yale campus each fall semester, usually in November.  Founded in 2004 to create a space on campus for exploring issues related to gender identity, it has expanded into a two-week long exploration and celebration of trans and gender non-conforming identities, experiences, and communities.

Trans Week is meant to be accessible both to people who've never heard the word "trans" before as well as to those who are deeply involved in the LGBTQ community.  Past events have ranged from workshops, panels, and film screenings to art exhibits, performance artists, and drag balls.

Trans/gender Awareness Week is entirely student-run, fueled by the energy and enthusiasm of a small team of students and by the generosity and support of various individuals, organizations, and departments throughout the University.   It is affiliated with the Yale Office of LGBTQ Resources and the Yale LGBT Student Cooperative.  Additionally, Trans Week partners up with a number of other on-campus organizations to sponsor events of interest to diverse sectors of the student body.

Yale GALA Summer Fellowship for Students:

In 2010, Yale GALA set up a fellowship for students who are interning with an lgbt organization during the summer.  The fellowship provides essential funding for unpaid internships in the community.  For more information on how to donate to this please contact Mickey Dobbs,
