Event description

Description

In recognition of the Yale Day of Service, the Houston Yale Black Alumni Association is holding a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Wikipedia is a well-known and widely used global resource, yet content is skewed by the lack of diversity in race, ethnicity, and gender of average Wikipedia contributors. This event is modeled after culture and software movements that aim to help close the multicultural and gender gaps in Wikipedia such as Art+Feminism and AfroCROWD.

On Saturday, May 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the African American Library at The Gregory School at 1300 Victor Street get free training on becoming a Wikipedia editor. Bring your laptop, power cord, and enthusiasm! We'll be editing articles on Houston and whatever else you're interested in! Taking 42 seconds (yes I timed it) to create a Wikipedia account before Saturday is recommended.

No experience is necessary and don't worry if you can't attend for the entire time.
