Event description

Description

The Yale University Concert Band will tour Australia for the first time in its 100-year history starting 24 May 2018, with concerts in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney & Canberra (29 May). The Band is renowned across the United States, having performed at Carnegie Hall, in London’s Royal Albert Hall, and many tours across Europe. Consisting of 55 brass, woodwind, keyboard and percussion players, the bands repertoire is varied, from John Philip Sousa’s rousing band music to chamber and ensemble works.

2018 marks the Band’s centennial year. No strangers to international travel, this will be their first trip to Australia and 6th continent. On this tour they will perform compositions by Tchaikovsky, Hindemith, Maslanka, Mackey, Wilson and Benstein, as well as a reconstruction of Bellpiece, the last composed unfinished piece by famous Australian composer Percy Grainger. This reconstruction has never before been performed in concert in Australia.

YCB will also be joined by Band of the Royal Military College under the direction of Maj. Glenn Rogers.

Admission is free with Eventbrite registration. There will also be a gold coin collection benefiting Legacy Australia.
