How Delicious Food Can Save The Planet

Geoffrey Van (YC '14) is a farmer at Spoon Full Farm. Spoon Full Farm practices Whole Earth Farming: a synthesis of soil-regenerative farming philosophies and techniques that produce delicious, nutritious, and carbon-sequestering foods.

Based on a 240 acre property on Washington's Yakima River, Geoffrey and four friends started the farm in early 2017. One year later, Spoon Full Farm raises vegetables, chickens, lamb, beef, and honey. The farm has a loyal base of patrons who not only buy their farm-fresh food, but also learn why the health of their bodies and the health of the land are deeply connected.

Geoffrey will talk about how he went from a cognitive science Yale graduate to spending all day with various forms of feces (and not just from cows, sheep, and chickens!). He will discuss soil health, the keystone to the architecture of our food system, and how it can reverse the effects of climate change. Finally, he will talk about why he believes farming will become the next tech industry.
