Event Details

"Yale Career Panels: A Candid View of Investment Banking" on January 23, 2013

This event is the fifth in a series covering different professions and will feature four investment banking panelists (all Yale graduates) representing the disciplines of corporate finance, financial advisory and M&A. The concept is to have a diverse panel of investment bankers from four different firms, all of whom will provide candid views of their profession.

The legal, investment banking, medical and consulting professions were featured on March 29, April 23, October 9 and November 1, respectively.   The remaining series for the rest of the 2012 – 2013 academic year will cover a number of professions, including entrepreneurship, drama and film, and a repeat of legal.

This series is jointly supported by various organizations at Yale University and Yale Alumni organizations, including Yale Undergraduate Career Services, the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA), Students and Alumni of Yale (STAY), the Junior Class Council (JCC), the Yale Alumni Association of New York (YAANY), the Asian American Cultural Center, and the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni (AAAYA).

The panel discussion will be held in New York City, but will be simultaneously broadcast via video conference to a meeting room at Yale University (location to be announced), and over the internet as a streaming video webinar.

Where is the profession heading (good and bad)?

How do you get into the profession and what is the typical career path?

What are the myths versus the realities?

What are the characteristics of people who tend to do well and are happy in the profession?

What types of people tend not to do well or end up unhappy and why?

If you don’t stay in the profession until retirement, what are the exit routes to other professions?
