Yaama Ngunna Baaka Corroboree Festival Bus Tour 2019

About this Event

UPDATE : BOOK NOW to secure your seat on the bus

Come with us on the Yaama Ngunna Baaka Corroboree Festival 2019 bus tour to learn more about the crisis of our rivers and culture from Aboriginal elders and communities.

This will be a trip of a lifetime: you will sleep on the river banks of the once flowing Baarka (Murray Darling River) and eat bush tucker.

It aims to raise awareness and help the campaign to bring water back to the region’s communities.

The Yaama Ngunna Baaka Corroboree Festival bus tour leaves from Sydney, picks up people in Katoomba and Dubbo and travels to Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Wilcannia and Menindee Lakes System.

There are two departure dates and one return date.

Bus 1: Saturday September 28 to Friday October 4.

Bus 2: Sunday September 29 to Friday October 4

Cars can drive in convoy.

We will visit Walgett, the land of the Gamilaroi nation. In Brewarrina, the lands of the Muruwari, Ngemba, Weilwan and Yualwarri peoples, we will be welcomed by people from the Ngemba, Ualarai, Murrawarri and Wailwan, Aboriginal communities. Then we go to Bourke, the land of the Ngemba people. Then in Wilcannia we will be welcomed by the Barkindji people.

We will see the Brewarrina fish traps, old Mission sites and other cultural sites of significance and resistance in the river towns.

The ticket prices include:

• A return bus trip to the river towns in an air-conditioned, toileted, fully-serviced and professionally-driven bus.

• Aboriginal dancing and a cultural welcome in each town.

• A bush tucker meal every evening, with both vegetarians and meat eaters catered for.

• Plus breakfast and day tours organised by Aboriginal elders and local water activists.

People with significant food allergies or requirements need to cater for themselves. Participants must bring their own tents, swags, mats, stretchers and sleeping bags. People with specific health issues need to contact organisers to check in.
