Event Details

You can lead or you can follow, but eventually everyone will have to MOVE.

The YMCA of Windsor and Essex County, in partnership with Invisible Children, will be hosting Y MOVE: an Afternoon of Global Awareness, Local Discussions, and Personal Action, a free event featuring a screen of Invisible Children's Newest documentary entitled, MOVE. The screening will be accompanied by an address from a Ugandan Speaker, followed by breakout workshops. Local Newcomer Youth will be present to share with participants their own projects that provide information about different conflicts around the world.

In response to much controversy about their earlier documentary KONY2012, released earlier this year, MOVE is a film that gives viewers a behind the scenes look at the most viral video ever, and the movement that made an African warlord famous. The Power of Your Voice Workshop explores the themes of activism and advocacy, and takes an in-depth look at the power of private citizens.
Invisible Children, based out of San Diego California, seeks to bring a permanent end to atrocities as a result of the Lord’s Resistance Army, who has been abducting, killing, and displacing civilians in East and central Africa since 1987.

The YMCA of Windsor and Essex County’s mission is to support the growth of people in spirit, mind and body, and to foster a sense of responsibility to each other and the global community. The YMCA hopes to further this mission by inviting Invisible Children to share with our community their mandate and experiences, to inspire a sense of passion and activism, and to create awareness about global issues and how they impact the Windsor-Essex community.
