Welcome to this featured artists presentation on the intersection of art, technology and science! This public event presents featured artists through 25-min talks followed by 15-min Q&As. It's free, open to the public, and co-presented by Kinetech Arts, CounterPulse ODC Theater, and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program.

About the Artists

Sebastián Peréz studies how planets form and leads initiatives on art-science interplay with incursions into music, literature, and education. He wrote an engaging novel that promotes women in science and led an embodied learning project applied to astrophysics. He commissioned and played on A. Yermakova's Charango concerto "From the Big Bang, through the fundamental laws." Seba is an astrophysics professor at the University of Santiago (Chile) and the director of the Millennium Nucleus on Young Exoplanets and their Moons and has authored >70 publications. His 2022 project is "promoting dialogue between scientific and indigenous knowledge in astrophysics using virtual reality." He was a resident at Djerassi's Scientific Delirium Madness in 2018.

Carole Kim is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on video projection for multimedia installation, performance and photography. She has a hands-on, tactile approach to the materials she works with, pushing the moving image to take on optical, spatial and dimensional form. Her work has been presented in a wide range of contexts including experimental music, theater, art, dance and site-specific installation. At the onset of the pandemic, Kim compressed her installations to fit beneath her kitchen table which became an intimate “venue” for online collaborative performance. The audio-visual ensemble she founded, “Dilate Ensemble” was granted an Improvising the Net(Work) residency by Thoughtworks Arts and CounterPulse theater with culminating performances January 13 & 14, 2022.

Our monthly Featured Artist Presentation (KAFAP) invites two artists and scientists to share their work and research.

Since 2014, KA organizes the annual Dance Hack Festival, in collaboration with CounterPulse since 2016. This Festival is a two day of experimentation and workshop free for local and international participants. Over 80 participants work closely in teams here in SF and more in Amsterdam, London and other locations, create and share their prototypes in a spontaneous and vibrant environment.
