It entails explicit instruction in each strategy, guided practice, meaningful feedback, and independent practice in generalizing and combining strategies within and outside school. Xtreme Reading is appropriate for middle school or high school students who are at a 4th grade reading level but still fall at least 2 years behind grade level in their reading performance and exhibit:
• Poor reading fluency
• Small sight vocabularies
• Limited understanding of words and multiple word meanings
• Limited background and conceptual knowledge
• Demonstrate few skills in using strategies that enhance understanding and remembering of oral and written language
Days 1-3 will present effective ways to set up your class and launch the course. It also includes instruction in word level strategies for your students.
Participants will get 1.8 CEUs
