Description

Come Join us for Xasuuso (Remember) 1960.

The event will start with light refreshments at 6:30 pm. At 7:00 pm we will start the documentary followed by discussions.

Xasuuso 1960 is a yearly celebration of Somali history and culture. This year we will be focusing on Somali art through the lens of poetry. This will include a showing the documentary, Somalia: A Nation of Poets and a discussion with members of the Somali artistic community.

Somalia: A Nation of Poets is a documentary produced in collaboration with Ka Joog, the Somali Museum of Minnesota, and Twin Cities Public Broadcasting. This 30-minute documentary not only highlights the oral traditions of Somali poetry and its influence for Minnesota viewers, but importantly this will be a video tool that can be used as a basis for cultural discussions in various communities and classrooms throughout the state and beyond. Somalia: A Nation of Poets features prominent artists from both the older and younger generations to demonstrate how this ancient tradition is being nurtured and expressed throughout the Somali diaspora. We look forward to sharing it with you before it will be broadcast statewide on the 6 Public Television stations of Minnesota, and later made available to other television stations in the United States.

Since we have limited seats at this event we ask that you please "register" for the event!
