Integrative Play Therapy for Treatment of Abuse & Trauma
This workshop will emphasize an integrative approach to using play therapy with victims of abuse & trauma in a manner which reduces symptoms & promotes healing, growth, & recovery. Recent research, studies, & literature pertaining to trauma’s impact on the brain, treatment of posttraumatic stress, & trauma-informed treatment will be reviewed. Attendees will learn strategies for addressing the complex treatment needs of abused & traumatized individuals using both posttraumatic play metaphors & directive play therapy interventions.

Sueann Kenney-Noziska, MSW, LCSW, RPT-S, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor who specializes in using play therapy with abused & traumatized children and adolescents. In addition to maintaining a full-time private practice, she is internationally recognized as an esteemed author, guest lecturer, and professional speaker. She has provided expert testimony at both the state and federal level to educate juries and legal professionals regarding the impact of trauma, dynamics of sexual abuse, delayed disclosure, and other matters pertaining to childhood abuse and trauma. Sueann is an active leader in the play therapy field and was recently appointed to the Foundation Board of Directors for the Association for Play Therapy. On a personal note, Sueann is a proud Midwest girl from South Dakota & loves chocolate, beer, and dogs.

Sharolyn Wallace, PhD. LCSW, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor has been the Professor of Human Services at Tulsa Community College for over 20 years. She is also the director for TCC’s Center for Addiction Prevention and Recovery Support. Dr. Wallace received the 2014 C.V. Ramana award for Outstanding Contribution to the Mental Health of Oklahoma’s Children and the 2016 NASW-OK Social Worker of the Year. She is the Past-President for OK NASW. She is a Board Member and the 2018 Chair for the Association for Play Therapy and former Region X Board Member National Association for Social Workers. Dr. Wallace has been in private practice for over twenty-five years specializing in child sexual abuse and trauma. Dr. Wallace led a team of mental health workers providing crisis intervention and play therapy in Sri Lanka one month at the Tsunami. She has also provided crisis relief work in Alaska, New York, Miami, San Francisco, and Scotland, and two separate tours of duty in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Wallace has published articles on play therapy and relapse prevention with child welfare families. She is the author of a series of children’s books, “The Adventures of Bruce, Ben & Gerry.”

Play Therapy 101: Welcome to The Play Room
Play is the language of children and toys are the words used to express their inner thoughts, feelings, and ever-changing behavior. Play therapy is well-researched and developmentally responsive approach to counseling children. Utilizing the therapeutic relationship as the agent for change with the child facilitates opportunities for children to grow and develop in positive directions. This workshop will provide a basic foundation and understanding of how to implement play therapy skills into your work with children.

Kara Carnes-Holt is an associate professor in the counseling program at the University of Wyoming. She is a professional counselor, a registered play therapist, and approved play therapy supervisor (RPT-S). Kara is a certified Child-centered play therapy /approved supervisor (CCPT-S) and Child Parent Relationship Therapy/approved supervisor (CPRT-S). She is also the founder and director of the Rocky Mountain Center of Play Therapy Studies at the University of Wyoming. Kara has special interests in utilizing humanistic play therapy, CPRT, and expressive arts interventions as they utilize the therapeutic relationship as the primary and foundational agent of change for children, adolescents, and their families. Most importantly, Kara enjoys living out on the mountain with Eric, her energetic kiddos surrounded by a host of wildlife and pets!

Jungian Sandplay: An Introduction with Experiential Practice
This seminar will discuss the foundations of Jungian Sandplay as created by Dora Kalff. Based in play therapy, Dora Kalff created a method whereby children are allowed to build their worlds in a free and protected space created by the therapist. Topics introduced in this seminar will include a brief background in Jungian theory as it applies to Sandplay, creating a free and protected space, ethics, symbol, the use of Sandplay in your clinic. Participants will be able to begin understanding what trays teach us in this course. The presentation and significance of first trays in a series will be the focus. This is a unique and enticing presentation for all participants, regardless of previous exposure to Sandplay.

From Rose: I consider myself a lifelong learner who is always expanding my knowledge so I can offer the most effective healing methods to my clients. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. My ability to form meaningful relationships with children create the foundation of my treatment success. Additionally, my deep passions for Experiential Play Therapy and Sandplay have been the focus of my treatment methods and my advanced study, consultation, teaching, and personal expertise. Currently, I am pursuing certification as a Sandplay Teacher. This very specific field of study allows me to teach other mental health practitioners the techniques that are known to be so successful for treatment.
