Event description

Description

Melbourne University's Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology conducts hearing screenings in the community for children aged 3.5 to 6 years of age. The goal of these screenings is to identify previously unknown hearing issues in young children that would, if undetected, have the potential to impact both short and long term speech and language outcomes. There is no cost for these screenings.

The screenings are conducted by Master of Clinical Audiology students, under full supervision by an attending qualified Audiologist. These screenings form a valuable component of our clinical teaching and through these events we are helping to develop the skills our students need to be best placed to serve the community as graduates.

Each child & family is allocated a maximum of 30 minutes to complete the following steps of the pathway:

  1. Registration
  2. History taking with parents
  3. Hearing screening under headphones
  4. Speech reception testing using flashcards
  5. An assessment of outer and middle ear health
  6. Feedback and advice
