Writing While Black dans La forêt noire

Join us for an afternoon where creative writing meets visual arts installation. Featuring the immersive and ambitious works of Anna Jane McIntyre, this event invites black folks interested in both literary and visual arts to gather for a casual writing workshop. Facilitated by Whitney French, this programming is a space for both ordinary and heroic blackness. Whether you are an admirer of art, a budding writer or simply curious to explore black art on a Sunday afternoon, be sure to check out Writing While Black dans La forêt noire.

About Writing While Black:


Writing While Black is a community centre, people-powered workshop series is tailored to black writers at all stages of their writing journey (beginner, emerging, mid-career, established) writing in any genre or discipline (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, journalism, dramatic writing, spoken word etc.). The main goal of the workshops is to create a safe space and develop a community of black writers who can provide support to one another's artistic projects.

About Facilitator:


Whitney French is a writer, storyteller, and multi-disciplinary artist. She's been published in a couple of places but she takes more pride in the community she builds than the things she produces. Whitney also the founder and co-editor of the nation-wide publication From the Root Zine as well as the founder of the workshop series Writing While Black: an initiative to develop a community of black writers. Whitney French is presently working on an anthology of creative non-fiction by black Canadians for the University of Regina Press.

About Installation Artist:


Anna Jane McIntyre is a multidisciplinary artist with a practice combining sculpture, performance, micro-activism, and relationalism. She works with multiple narratives simultaneously, investigating how people perceive, create and maintain their notions of self through behaviour and visual cues. She is very interested in the idea of adult play. Anna Jane McIntyre received her MFA at Concordia University and her BFA at Ontario Collage of Art & Design. Her latest work, La forêt noire is featured at the MAI in Montreal.
