Event description

Description

The New Year brings with it the latest legislative effort to provide additional paid time off for your employees—Washington’s new sick leave law. When voters passed I-1433 in 2016, the law was designed to give paid time off to most employees in Washington. Since then, the Department of Labor and Industries has finalized rules interpreting the law, which will have significant bearing on how employers deal with the new leave entitlement. What does that law and its implementing regulations provide? Who is eligible for sick leave? How much leave is required? Will you be required to change your existing paid time off policies? What about union-represented employees? We will answer these questions, and many more, in our hour-long session.

What you’ll learn:

  • What employers are covered by I-1433 and the new provisions of RCW 49.46

  • Who is eligible for sick leave

  • How the law interacts with other leave entitlements

  • Approaches should you take in dealing with employee notice and medical documentation requirements

  • The impact on unionized employers

  • How to update your sick leave policy

  • Tips for complying with the many provisions of the new statute and regulations

  • Other pitfalls for the unwary
