Event description

Description

Sometimes there seems to be so much bad news, we must find ways to keep out spirits up and our poetry flowing. What better way than to write an ode, the poem of celebration? Take a break from whatever your worries with Sally Ashton on January 26 for a day-long workshop to do just that. We’ll look at the classic ode, review contemporary models, then you’ll write an ode of your own. Learn a classical form, write a new poem, have fun with fellow poets, and celebrate!

Instructor bio: Former Santa Clara County Poet Laureate Sally Ashton is Editor-in-Chief of DMQ Review and the author of three poetry collections. A fourth book, The Behaviour of Clocks, is forthcoming in 2019. Ashton teaches creative writing at San Jose State University and is assistant editor of They Said: A Multi-Genre Anthology of Contemporary Collaborative Writing. Recent work appears in Rattle, Brevity, Zyzzyva, Poet Lore, and Los Angeles Review of Books.
