Optimise your build and DevOps pipeline by learning how to write plugins for Gradle from the person who has written the book. In this course you will learn some advanced techniques that have not even been published anywhere, giving you a powerful set of skills to contribute to both your organisation and the Gradle community.

Attendees will also receive a free copy of both Idiomatic Gradle Vols 1 & 2.

IMPORTANT: The course is presented in two 4-hour sessions on consecutive days.

Course objectives:

  • Write declarative DSLs to aid comprehensibility for build script authors
  • Work with external tools and cache them without need for installation.
  • Craft plugins that are compatible with both Groovy & Kotlin DSLs.
  • Use of lazy evaluation for maximum flexibility.
  • Using configuration for internal and external usage.
  • Multi-layer extensions for maximum task flexibility.
  • Testing plugins for functionality and compatibility.
  • Caching dependencies for testing.
  • Publishing plugins for use and discoverability.
  • Extending DevOps automation pipeline through Gradle plugin functionality


  • Working knowledge of Java & Groovy
  • Working knowledge of Gradle build scripts.
  • Git & JDK8 installed on attendees workstation

About the presenter:

Schalk Cronjé is a leading speaker and author on extending Gradle and it's use in DevOps pipelines. He is also the creator of a number of specialised plugins for Gradle and contributor to a number of others. He has also authored a number of guides for Gradle which is available from Gradle Guides. He serves on the steering comittee of both the Agile Testing Alliance and the DevOps++ Alliance.
