If you're new to the writing world (or even if you're not) it helps to know the tacit rules of etiquette--all those rules that no one ever teaches you but everyone expects you to know about the writing business and community. For example, what's the proper decorum when visiting, joining, or leaving critique groups? What about contacting other authors I might have met, but who aren't quite my friends? Do I need to pay a beta reader? Is there an expected format for emailing my agent, my editor, my publicist--and at what point do those emails become annoying? What about the rules around submissions and queries? Can I ask anyone I want to write a blurb for my book, or do I have to know the person? How do I approach bookstores about events? And how about the crazy world of social media? What are the protocols? In this workshop, we'll discuss these and many more crucial questions about writers’ etiquette in an informal, inclusive, judgment-free zone, with practical take-away tips that could save or boost your career. Please come with questions about any and every aspect of writing community and career.
