Event description

Description

The Central New York Branch of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) will host a writing workshop that will guide participants through a variety of poetic and literary techniques to allow for richer writing and reading experiences. Poet, writer, educator, and Faulkner Poetry Contest winner Nancy A. Dafoe will teach the workshop and will be joined by award-winning poets and writers from NLAPW.

The Central New York Branch recently released an illustrated anthology of works by members, titled “In the Company of Women. Workshop recipients will receive a copy of the book. The workshop is free (suggested donation of $50, payable at the door, will help cover expenses and supplies).

Proceeds benefit NLAPW, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support professional work of women in art, letters, music, dance and allied professions. Marking its 120th anniversary this year, NLAPW has numerous arts outreach programs across the country, including scholarships for students, grants for emerging writers and arts competitions.

Seating for the workshop is limited—please reserve your spot by April 30 by emailing Bobbie Dumas Panek at bobbie.panek@gmail.com.

This event will be followed by a free public reading at 5 p.m. (see separate listing)
