Writing About Inquiry: The use of Science Notebooks
Science and problem solving are synonymous, the scientist is known to be a problem solver. Science in the 21st century classroom emphasizes problem solving, and in the wake of the Next Generation Science Standards, science teaching and learning now uses the Science and Engineering Practices as a vehicle to teach problem solving. In order to support students in building conceptual understanding of the world around them, students have to have a system of recording, retrieving and analyzing the outcome of their inquiries. Therefore, science notebooks will encourage students to be critical thinkers, enhance literacy skills while fostering other valuable agentic behaviors.
You are invited to a professional learning opportunity to explore the use of the Science Notebook as a tool for fostering agentic behaviors in students in the 21st century science classroom.
Participants are urged to bring artifact(s) that represent/describe a change strategy they have made since the last PL session in February.
