Writing a letter to your breath
Aware Breathers! You may be familiar with your breath as a tool or anchor in meditation or yoga but do you ever give yourself the space to contemplate your relationship to your breath? What would it be like to talk to your breath by writing or creating a letter? What could we discover?
Elspeth Penny, with her letter-writing rack, unusual pens, inks and inspiration will guide you to write, create or draw a letter to your breath. You’ll be led through a playful progression of games and exercises, then create your letter. Elspeth is an arts and health specialist, a writer, director and actor for film, tv and theatre and draws widely on her experiences in this activity (www.2buproductions.org).
This workshop will contribute to the Life of Breath study http://www.lifeofbreath.org. Life of Breath is funded by the Welcome Trust and is hosted by the Universities of Bristol and Durham. You will be invited to include your letter in the Life of Breath project by agreeing to have it photographed or making a recording of it. The workshop provides an opportunity to explore with an experienced facilitator in a small group, how we think, feel and relate to our breath. The workshop approach is playful, creative and reflective.
