Tired of the emotional struggles that can sometimes arrive with greater force than the words? Dissatisfied with having to choose between your art and your happiness? Concerned that there are writers as famous for their life drama as they are for their work? (Think Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Plath.) Guess what? Your pen doesn't have to bleed, and great art doesn't only come from great suffering (although sometimes it does). In this class, we will dispel the myths that surround the writing life and share practical tips for enjoying the creative process and keeping healthy relationships. Though at times we might have to choose between our pet and our significant other, our writing lives can gel with both. In this session, we will learn how to be our own best friend and champion, instead of engaging in battle with ourselves and our fears of being rejected by publishers, readers, and family members. We'll look at ways to keep our boundaries, be ourselves first, stop putting ourselves down, and focus on craft rather than the crowd. If you are ready for a healthy mental and emotional life, one that strengthens rather than disrupts your writing practice, then join us on the path to choosing our best selves and our best work.
