Event description

Description

Do you like horror films? Have you ever thought about what makes a horror film scary? Do you think you can create a creepy setting, a dark atmosphere and tone, and enough shocks and surprises to terrify your audience? During this two hour workshop, young writers will be encouraged to analyse what it is that makes a film scary, before coming up with ideas of their own. From haunted houses and ghosts, to vampires and werewolves, from witches and curses to zombies and clowns, anything goes! The aim of the workshop is to come up with an idea or a 'pitch' for a horror film. We will be looking at ways to evoke terror and horror, and discussing the common elements of horror films. We will decide our genre and devise suitable characters to tell the story. We will think about using various tools to create fear in the audience, such as building suspense, using silence, fear of the unknown and repulsion. We will plot the film and pen our very first scene. For 10-16-year-olds with an interest in horror writing and/or scriptwriting. All materials provided. Please feel free to bring a snack and drink.
