Master Class: Write Your Novel, Memoir, or Personal Essays with Writer & Editor C. Flanagan Flynn

About this Event

C. Flanagan Flynn’s editorial eye, ability to help writers finish manuscripts, and experience with excerpting chapters have proven life-changing for writers.

Join C. Flanagan Flynn, award-winning writer and editor, at a stunning Gothic-Tudor Mansion steeped in literary history. The Charles Cheney Inn was one of a handful of residences where The Monday Evening Club was hosted. Horse-drawn carriages once carried distinguished guests to the portico. Dignitaries included Mark Twain, and The Monday Evening Club was a gathering for members to share writing. Be part of that esteemed literary history in this one-of-a-kind, impeccably restored, architectural masterpiece as you write your masterpiece with C. Flanagan Flynn in this Master Class: Write Your Memoir, Novel, or Personal Essays.

Workshop Dates: March 4, March 18, April 1, April 22, May 6, 2020. Afternoons 1:00 pm-3:15 pm. Five Sessions. Writers of all levels welcome.

C. has taught at Wesleyan University and Westport Writers' Workshop and lectured at Bay Path University’s Writers’ Day and Central Connecticut State University’s Power of the Pen. C.'s expertise in working with fiction and nonfiction writers is evidenced through the bylines students have earned working with her. As the former Managing Editor of Brain Child and Brain Teen magazines, C.’s editorial roles now extend to Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of Centered: The magazine of personal stories. With C.’s editorial input, writers have published standalone essays, memoir excerpts, or novel excerpts in Creative Nonfiction Magazine (contest award winner), The New York Times (Modern Love Column), The MacGuffin, Towson's Grub Street Literary Review, Brain Child, Brain Teen, Adelaide Literary Magazine, and The Hartford Courant. Manuscripts she’s edited have been published by Penguin Random House, New World Library, and Lone Pine Publishing. She’s guided bloggers to syndication, including a writer’s syndication with The Good Men Project.

As a writer, C. has been twice nominated for Pushcart Prizes and an excerpt of her memoir, A Reunion of Broken Parts, was a finalist for The Frank McCourt Memoir Prize. She’s been published in The New York Times, Memoir Magazine, Brain Child, and Brain Teen. She writes the Literary Unleashed column for Inkling Magazine. Her work has been recognized by Proximity Magazine and The Southampton Review. She’s also been featured in The Hartford Courant.
