Description
Write Well, Sell Well is a conference inspiring and equipping writers with knowledge of the craft and the business of writing so they are empowered to write and sell well, impacting the world around them and successfully navigating the publishing world. The founders Rene Gutteridge, Melanie Hemry, and Cheri Fuller have 70 YEARS of combined experience as published authors. Our second conference will be held Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25, 2014, in Oklahoma City at Crossings Community Center. Oklahoma creenwriter Jeff Robison, will keynote the conference.

Conference Agenda Friday, Oct 24, 2014
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Critiques
These are paid for and arranged in advance. Please see instructions on how to sign up for critiques at the bottom of this page. Deadline is October 7th.
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. – One-on-Ones
These are free 15 minute sessions that are first come, first served on Saturday morning. Come talk with industry professionals about your projects, vision, dream and writing. Sign up begins at 8 a.m. While you wait, please enjoy complimentary coffee, snacks and networking opportunities.
8 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Pitches to Janene McIvor
These are 15 minute pitch session. Come ready to pitch your book to Janene MacIvor, who works for Thomas Nelson Publishers, Nelson Books and HarperCollins Christian Publishing, Inc. These are first come, first served. Other opportunities will be available on Friday and Saturday as well and the schedule will be at the information desk to sign up.

1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. – Welcome, Introduction to Conference Faculty, Instructions for the Day
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Intensive Breakout Sessions
- Screenwriting by Rene Gutteridge
- This class introduces the basics of screenwriting and is also designed for novelists to understand the differences between fiction writing and screenwriting. Our special teaching guest will be Cheryl McKay, who will share some real world experience in our class as well.
- Building iPad books by Wesley Fryer
- This class gives step-by-step instructions on how to build and produce a book using your iPad. This class is for anyone who is interested in indie publishing.
- Writing for Guideposts by Melanie Hemry
- Writing for Guideposts is a great way to break into the publishing industry, but there are specific aspects of this specialized writing you need to know! Find out all the secrets in this class.
4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Special Session: Marketing and Social Media
No matter what kind of book you’re writing, every writer must excel in Marketing and Social Media. Chris Maselli is one of the best and he’s going to share all of his tips that will make you an expert as well!
6:30 – 7:15 p.m. – Dinner and VIP seating
VIP seating is reserved for those who win the VIP drawing. If you hold a VIP ticket, you get to enter the dining room first and choose who you want to sit with at dinner! Qualify for a chance to win this special ticket by getting a first- friend to enroll and bringing them to the conference! 7:30 p.m. – Keynote
WWSW is pleased to welcome screenwriter Cheryl McKay, who will deliver an inspiring message about how writing can change the world.
8:15 p.m. – Book signing and Dessert
Join us for some fun! We’ll have all our speakers signing books and will be serving some scrumptious dessert. What a way to cap off the evening! (But not too late, we have a busy day on Saturday!)

9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Major Tracks
- Fiction – Taught by novelist Rene Gutteridge, this is all you need to know about writing a novel! Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced, there is always something more to learn, some come join us for some fun!
- Non-Fiction—Taught by veteran non-fiction writers Melanie Hemry and Cheri Fuller, this class will give full instruction and great tips on how to write non-fiction, no matter what kind of book you want to write!
- Children’s—Multi-published children’s writer Chris Maselli will take you through this specialized writing. If you’re writing for children, do not miss this class! It is specialized and Chris will give you everything you need to know to be on your way to publishing for children.

Enjoy lunch with fellow conferees and faculty and hear Janene share her wisdom!
1:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. – Breakout Sessions #1
- Contracts and Book Proposals
- Taught by Cheri Fuller, this will give you insight into what to expect and what to know when you get your first contract, as well as how to write the kind of proposal that will catch a publisher’s eye
- Ghost Writing
- Taught by Gina Lynnes and Melanie Hemry . Ghost writers have to know more than writing. They also must know how to work well with others. These two veteran ghost writers will share their tips and insights into this specialized writing.
- Marketing Your Brand and Platform
- You want to write, but you also must come up with your brand, no matter what you write. Victorya Rogers is one of the best, and she’ll share her secrets on how to build yourself into a product people will want!
2:45 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Breakout Sessions #2
- Working with Hollywood Agents and Contracts
- If you are interested in screenwriting, you also need to know the business side of Hollywood and moviemaking. Come hear Victorya Rogers talk about her experiences as an agent and what you can learn!
- How to Edit Your Own Work
- Gina Lynnes knows a thing or two or two thousand about self-editing. Particularly if you want to indie publish, but even if not, self-editing will take you to a new level in writing. Come here Gina share her tips.
- Tips and Tricks for E-book and Indie Publishing
- Wes Fryer knows what to do and how to do it! Come let him show you how it’s done. With indie publishing taking Amazon by storm, get in the know on how to do it yourself.
3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Traditional, Indie and E-Book Publishing Panel
Come here a full discussion on the various ways to publish a book in our modern culture, and decide which route is best for you!
5:00 p.m. – Send off and book signing
Didn’t get to come to Friday’s dessert and book signing? You’ll have a chance to buy books and get them signed again!
