Welsh as a skill in the social care sector

A key part of Social Care Wales’ leadership role is to build confidence in the workforce. By enhancing the workforce’s Welsh language skills, knowledge and understanding of bilingualism, this can help deliver better care services for everyone.

To support Welsh Government’s More than just Words strategic framework to ensure that the language needs of Welsh speakers are met, we have developed a toolkit for workers to assess the level of their Welsh language skills.

Social Care Wales are also working with the National Centre for Learning Welsh, on a programme to help social care workers learn and use Welsh in their day-to-day work.

These events aim to raise awareness of how and why Welsh is a skill (at any level) and to find out what resources are available to support you to make the “active offer”. You will also find a wealth of information about the 'Work Welsh' programme and how this can give workers the confidence to have conversations with those they support through the medium of Welsh.

There will be a “Market Place” where partners will have information for you on how they can support you to deliver bilingual services.

We want the event to be an exchange of knowledge where current good practice can be shared and inspire others. If you would like any further information before booking on to the event please contact sandie.grieve@socialcare.wales or liz.king-jones@socialcare.wales

Please note that attendance at these learning events will count towards your PRTL.
