Event description

Description

DBHDS: Office of Community Housing and VOCAL have come together to offer WRAP for Housing. Please consider joining us!

Housing is essential to health and well-being. The research on social determinants of health shows that having a stable place to live is a better predictor of health and wellness than almost any other factor, including traditional predicators like keeping medical appointments. With that said, getting and keeping housing is complicated.

WRAP for Housing, a one-day workshop, will include discussions of:

  • Definitions of terms and existing services,
  • Tools and strategies to navigate housing options, and
  • Interview guides to help determine a person’s needs, wants, and assets in relation to housing options.

The values of wellness and recovery such as, self-empowerment, self-awareness, choice, and personal responsibility, will be incorporated and highlighted throughout the workshop.

This training is designed to prepare participants to support another person while they think through what they want and need in housing, utilize tools and strategies, and navigate the various systems. Participants will be provided with two copies of the WRAP for Housing workbook to use when supporting others in the future.

Bonnie Neighbour and Georgi Fisher will be co-facilitating this training. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet with them, as many resources to be discussed are online-based.

To help increase accessibility, mileage reimbursements will be available. Lunch will also be provided.

Please contact Megan Sharkey of VOCAL with any questions.

Free participation has been made possible through funding from Virginia's Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services: Office of Community Housing.
