About And a Child Shall Lead by Michael Slade:
In November of 1941, about 30 kilometers outside of Prague, the Nazi army turned the fortress of Terezin into a ghetto for Jewish prisoners – a way station before being shipped to the death camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Between 1942 and 1945 more than 160,000 people passed through the gates of Terezin. Among those were more than 15,000 children. Fewer than 100 of those children survived the war. Based on the devastating true events of Terezin, And a Child Shall Lead follows the lives of the children of barracks L-310 and L-318 as they navigate love and loss among the insanity of war. Utilizing actual poems written by the young inmates of Terezin this sweeping drama gives a peek into the everyday lives of the children as they come of age among the horrors of the holocaust and teaches all of us that even in the darkest places we can find art, hope, and beauty.
"And A Child Shall Lead" A Play by Michael Slade | Directed by Becky Gil | Music by David Lawrence and Original Lyrics to “We Shall Lead” by Faye Greenberg
